Hahanaru Rice

Hahanaru is a brand of premium Japanese Koshihikari rice, a short-grain rice variety that is often used in Japanese cuisine. Its grains hold a sweet flavour and an inherently sticky texture, yet retains its shape and bite, which makes it an appealing choice widely used by Michelin starred Japanese restaurants.

I created a promotional poster of Hahanaru for Maruhachi Ramen’s restaurants/storefronts and also for their Costco Wholesale channel, as it is the rice used in their Signature Beef Bowls. Keeping an organic and retro feel to the design, I built the design around a textured hand-drawn digital illustration of Mount Fuji to emulate the peaceful scene of being in Japan.
